Hot hot hot

A weekend that started of fresh and wet, turned hot ,hot, hot. A return of the lovely blue sky, sunshine pouring though the house, windows open, the sound of grass being cut across the neighbourhood, lunch outside, and a chilled glass of white wine with supper.

Far to hot for craft!!!!!

Canvas work. New project

So it's not been all ripple, ripple, ripple here, there has been a fair amount of thought about my idea to do some canvas work. I mentioned when I loaded the iris picture that I'd already silk shaded an iris much the same. Which is why I want to have a go with canvas work. I found today the drawings I did before I started the piece, ( i have the drawings and prickings of all my favourite pieces ) one done just in pencil, the other in colour. I will need to do the same with the new iris picture, it really helps. You can work out where the light is and how you will use you colours. What I could not believe was that I don't have a picture of the finish flower, only the shot below of me working on it.

While I was on the hunt for the above drawings I found this below, another half finished long abandoned sample. This was an odd request for a class that wished to do silk shading on canvas, not something that had been done before! But look it really works, I like the contrast between the squareness of the canvas stitches and the smooth silk shading, it's fun and maybe one day I will finish it!!!. It's worked on a 18 count canvas using stranded cotton, with Appleton's wool for the background. I would like to use stranded cotton for the new project and a 22 count canvas.

I often find that once I find a design I like, I then start looking at every thing just in case that will be a better design!!!!! So when the sun was shining today I darted out into the garden to hunt down lovely things, and as you see I did find some. But my garden will never be able to offer the beauties that we found at Great Comp.

I just need to purchase some canvas from Willow Fabrics and I can start.

I try and learn to do new things and today I wanted to know how to make a mosaic photo. Following the tutorial on Little Red House I managed to do this ( hope it works)

Tension

At last I have got the hang of wrapping the yarn round my little finger, so the tension is much better! I can do it when I knit so I don't know why it took so long to master it with crochet. It feels quite natural too.

I have the blanket and all the yarn on the floor in my basket, which is not a very good idea as the baby person likes to rummage. As you see draughty dog ( from Knitted Nursery )is guarding, although I fear he did not do a very good job, and was just flung out of the way!

To keep me going with the ripple blanket, I, or should I say we, have a regular look at Attic 24, baby person really has the touch screen thing figured. I don't think Percy pad can cope with baby people!!

Here we are, round little finger, up and over index finger, ripple ripple ripple.

Progress

Even with there being little time spent on this blanket since my new toy arrived, this blanket is still growing at a good rate! I'm getting much quicker at crochet, I spread this out on the floor to take it's picture and as you see did not get a shoot without a baby on it.

Iris, Future project

Thats better, all updates done and computer up and running again! Don't you just love this flower?

It gets bigger !!!!!

Look at this thing growing, loving the colours, this blanket is being modeled by Muttley who was minding his own business sleeping next to my yarn basket when he had a blanket placed on him.
Also took the picture below at Great Comp gardens about 2 weeks ago, its crying out to have something done with it, but I've already silk shaded an iris the same colour, so I was thinking of doing some canvas work but on a fine canvas using cotton thread rather then wool.  I really love the way you can blend the colours with a stranded cotton.  I have been looking at some canvas at Willow fabrics and hope to order soon.( sorry about picture but computer is downloading a billion updates and running so slowly I gave up, took a photo of the photo and I'm using the phone to blog this!!!!!) Will try again later in the week .

Mollie Makes

Have you seen this new magazine, full of lots of lovely things!!

Keeping busy

The thing with embroidery is that you can't get on with it while the kids are around, I find it to involved and you can't keep an eye on little people at the same time, same with knitting. But there are times during the day when they are busy playing and they don't need me standing over them.  I am not good at sitting and doing nothing so I had to think of something to do, and I came up with crochet, easy to pick up and put down, you don't have to finish a row (and its very easy to take out if you go wrong )  and with a little help and inspiration from Attic 24 colourful ripple blanket is well under way!!!!!
Also collecting flower pictures at  the moment, as I have a fancy to do some more silk shading.
I have a lovely kit from U Handbag too, to make a purse, just because I wanted to know how they were made!!!!!
